Pregnancy Blog - My hospital bags are {finally} packed!

Pregnancy Blog - My hospital bags are {finally} packed!

So, this week I reach a milestone in my pregnancy journey- I am 32 weeks. I can now officially deliver at any time at my hospital of choice (with my OB) Prior to this, I would have been transferred to a larger hospital quite far away from where we live without knowing any of the doctors or staff.

With my first two pregnancies I would barely call my delivery a ‘stay in hospital’ so, my bag was just a small bag with a going home outfit for baby and I.

With Kai, he was born at 1am, however as I required stitches and my epidural to wear off I wasn’t actually showered until 8am. I was discharged at 9am with my brand new baby boy. Funny enough, that next day I drove from Wagga Wagga all the way to Adelaide (14 hour drive) on my own. I must have been running on adrenaline and wanting my family and friends to meet my baby boy!

For my second pregnancy, I had a 1 year old at home, and the same sort of thing. He arrived at 10pm; I was showered by midnight, slept a few hours and discharged at 8am!

This time around, I am not opting for or requesting an early discharge, as I know that the twins will need to be in special care nursery for a week or so, so the closer I am to them to happier for everyone.

I was also lucky enough to have vaginal deliveries for my first two pregnancies, which allowed me to walk straight away (especially after my second as I had no epidural!)

However, due to both twins being breech at this stage and the risk of the twins being delivered by a c-section has been increased, So I know that recovery will not be as straight forward as it was with my previous two, meaning at least 5 days in hospital.

I am thankful that my family will be flying up to help us with the boys too, as all of my family are based in Adelaide.

So, at 32 weeks pregnant I have finally packed my bags!

So, knowing that I will have a 5-day hospital stay (more if I end up on bed rest towards the end, as a lot of multiple pregnancies require!) I have had to look at this from almost a ‘new mum’ perspective. I scoured websites, asked in forums and have become pretty content with my contents!

For Me:

I have packed a lot of ‘essentials’ (clothing, toiletries bag etc) - With a few home comforts too:

  • 2 Packets of maternity pads (I got two different brands, that way I can decide which ones I prefer and send hubby off to get more as required)
  • 2 Packs of 5 target ‘nana undies’ (I will be essentially using these are disposable undies- They were $7 for 10!)
  • SRC recovery shortshttp://www.srchealth.com/src-recovery-shorts.html

I have been interested in this brand for ages after hearing about them from many health care professionals when I had my boys - I have loved wearing their pregnancy shorts so I can just imagine how incredible their post pregnancy shorts feel. I’ll be getting into these shorts when I’m feeling up to it after delivery for their help in supporting the body to recover after everything it goes through during pregnancy.

I always get dehydrated in hospitals so this is a must for me so I remember to drink lots-

  • A fluffy towel from home: (nothing better post birth)
  • Health insurance info/Pregnancy card/Medicare Info

Toiletries bag :

  • Hand Sanitiser, I use a natural version:

  • Fibre supplement ( new mums- trust me on this one!)
  • Ural- urinary alkaliniser (this will help with the 'wee sting' post birth!
  • Snacks- I have frozen a heap of my amazeballs, and placed them in ziplock bags in portions of 3. http://sophieguidolin.com.au/eshop/Recipebooks/

These are my ultimate item! I love supporting independent Australian labels plus wearing certified organic and fair trade cotton is so beautiful on your skin. This is one of my favourites from the range. When I was looking for comfortable lounge wear for the hospital, I was impressed by the founder Anna’s commitment to sustainable fashion and her work to reduce the label’s environmental impact.

Things I will grab if it is planned:

  • Camera
  • Laptop

For the girls bag:

As the girls will likely be very small, it is hard to guess what sizes to bring. Another consideration has been the fact that if they do require special care they wont really be ‘dressed up’

  • 2 Muslin wraps
  • 4 Beanies/Headbands (For cute photos!)
  • 4 Jumpsuits (size 0000 – newborn)
  • 2 Singlet-suits (size 0000- newborn)
  • 2 Socks
  • 2 Mittens
  • 2 T-shirts
  • 4 Leggings
  • 2 Blankets
  • 2 Going home outfits

Sammi Wow.Wow.Wow 😍 By far the best part of any coaches job. The results, the hard work and the dedication that is so clearly shown here. 😵 Sammi had her little girl 2 weeks before the twins were born, and like me suffered with haemorrhaging at 8 weeks pp too. (This is really hard to deal with along with a newborn, surgery and recovery!) However after 4 weeks on my #tbtprogram check out her incredible results. I am so so proud and happy to have helped in some way! 🙏 Way to go mama!!! 😆www.sophieguidolin.com.au/eshop
