Your Guide to Setting the Ultimate New Years Resolutions & Sticking to them!

In 2014, the number 1 resolution set was to lose weight- however 75% of people failed at their attempt in the first 10 days. 

Why? 

Failing to plan, prepare and make a step by step list to achieve the mini goals in order to get their 'major' goal.

So how can you set new year resolutions AND keep them?

Firstly, make your goal achievable.

It would be a very high expectation to lose 60 kilos in a year, become a professional bikini competitor and change careers. 

New years resolutions are amazing, however not because it is a new year so you need to set a new goal, but because you are putting a time frame on your goals. Like a new years resolution, you can also set 2-3 year resolutions too. 

For example, Instead of saying I want to lose 60 kilos in a year, change it to by 2018 I want to have lost 60 kilos. In 2015 I am aiming for a 20 kilo weight loss goal. A smaller, more realistic goal to achieve. 

Make them realistic. 

Almost half of the competitors we have who contact us to prepare them for a contest want to turn pro in their first season. This may happen for some people, and is a great long term dream, however for most people is an unrealistic expectation for a goal within a year.

Set a plan.

Okay, you want to change careers. Great! I am 110% for those who are not happy, to do something about it! However, quoting your current job without a plan is not the greatest plan. 

Try doing night classes to get your qualifications in your chosen career, or a part time course. Make steps, contact companies and business's who may be interested in hiring you. 

Get into a routine. 

People who exercise at the same time every day are more than 40% more likely to stick to their routine. 

Turn it into a habit. 

 Be prepare for minor set backs, and don't fall off if that happens. 

Stuff happens, life happens, accidents happen. We cannot predict the future, so be prepared that it may be 3 steps forward, 2 steps back. BUT you are still 1 step further than you were.

Here is my new years resolution:

Have a better work/home life balance. My plan? As we now have a gym, I have moved my home office into there, to stop me from working when I am at home (as I type this on my laptop on my couch! lol ) I know I work too much, and need to remember life is all about balance. I have also removed the emails from my mobile phone to ensure I am not always directing my attention back to work whilst with my boys. 

Write goals, plan ahead and succeed!
