How To Declutter Your Home

How To Declutter Your Home

Are you looking to up your household organisation? Then look no further! Whether you are doing a complete overhaul of your home or doing some light cleaning, upping your organisation game is always helpful.

There is just a satisfying feeling of knowing that there is a place for everything and everything is in its place. Not to mention having your home free of clutter keeps your head clear as well.

So if you're looking for some tips on household organisation, we are here to give you four tips on what you can do.

Purge Before You Buy Storage Solutions
Before you even think about investing in storage solutions for your home, its time to do a serious cleaning session. There are a couple of methods that you can use to clean out your home:

  1. The KonMari Method: This method was made accessible by famous organisation consultant Marie Kondo, and focuses on keeping items that spark joys. It also focuses on organising by category rather than a room. For example, you can start with clothing, then kitchen utensils, and finally linens.
  1. Organising by room: This method allows you to put all your focus into one room at a time. While organising by category can help smaller homes, it may not be feasible for larger spaces. Take one place at a time enables you to focus on each area.

Start With Your Drawers
Drawers are interesting spaces because their contents are hidden and out of sight, only seen when we open them up and promptly close them again. Please don't ignore your drawers and instead purchase some secure storage solutions to keep them organised.

A useful tool for organising drawer spaces are acrylic dividers. They come in multiple shapes and widths and help hold anything from silverware to office supplies.

Use Clear Canisters and Storage Bins
When you can, use clear canisters, bins, and other storage solutions. The thought behind this is that when you can see what you are storing within your kitchens or closets, then you are more incentivised to use those items. This piece is something especially useful within the kitchen organisation because it will make food storage more accessible. You will be able to see the food you have left physically, and it will help with future organisation and shopping for your home.

Make Time to Organise
One thing to note is that serious organisation does not happen fast. You have to set aside a considerable amount of time within your day to get down to the nitty-gritty of decluttering your home.

Also, it would help if you based the time needed for an organisation session based on the size of the space your tackling. For example, a complete closet cleanout will not take the same amount of time as your garage or kitchen.

Finally, make sure that you are prioritising when you are cleaning and
organising. Make an itemised list of what needs to be done to get the space together.

Knowing what you are getting into will help make sure you do not become overwhelmed with the task.
