Why What You Say To Yourself Is Important

Why What You Say To Yourself Is Important

The key to opening your mind, and unlocking your higher self is to realise just how strong your inner voice - your subconscious mind - truly is.

We unknowingly hold such immense power in our mind. From the moment you wake up, to the time that you lay your head down to rest, you have talked yourself through that whole day.

The question is, was the voice behind your actions negative or positive?

You see, people can be cruel, but your mind can be crueler. Your mind is the home to all your past trauma, limiting beliefs, self-doubt and expectations.

We all have them. These thoughts are extremely real, and they can be extremely cruel and mean.

With no guidance, subconsciously, your inner voice could be the very thing holding you back from happiness, relationships and ultimately, success in your life.

Alternatively, you can consistently work on shaping your inner voice to become an empowering, motivating, and inspiring place for you and your thoughts.

Here are 3 ways you can transform your inner voice into a positive place that ultimately leads you to a happier more fulfilling life.

  1. Recognise your thoughts

It’s safe to assume, you might want to dismiss those negative thoughts that come into your mind, at times.

Surprisingly enough, I believe in practicing the opposite route.

There is a reason why your thoughts are there. Just like, there is a reason why they come back. Dismissing your negative thoughts does not do anything except prolong their return.

Instead, I encourage you to try and take note when a thought that doesn’t serve you comes into your head.

Why is it there? What purpose does this thought have?

The first step to overcoming is to identify.

  1. Basic Belief Vs Positive Belief

A very useful way to identify what your inner voice is saying is to write down your basic beliefs.

Meaning, how you deeply and truly feel about certain segments of your life.

“Money” - Your belief, “Relationships” - Your belief, “Career” - Your belief

I encourage you to be as transparent and honest as you could be during this exercise. List out however many categories you need to - but do so with full intentions on being vulnerable.

For example, my beliefs started out as :

Money - It’s hard to come by, and there’s never enough

Relationships - People hurt and disappoint you

Career - I need the diploma in order to make my family happy

Truthfully, it can be scary when seeing your honest answers - and yet, it could also be eye-opening. It can be surprising to see what your inner voice was saying all along.

Doing this allows you to really see what you might’ve been telling yourself behind the scenes.

Reality is, these thoughts might’ve been steering your life decisions towards certain directions.

It’s time to end that. Now, we transform these thoughts positively.

Write down the positive belief to each basic belief that you have. How would you want to feel about each one? Go through carefully.

For example, my new positive beliefs are now :

Money - Money is a mind frame. Money will always come back to me. There is enough for everyone. There is enough for me. I am enough.

Relationships - Abundance is love. Knowing my worth is love. As long as I love myself, no one can truly hurt me.

Career - Happiness is success. Being happy makes my family happy. Doing what I love is my life goal.

As you can see, transforming your negative thoughts into positive thoughts is an extremely beautiful, powerful thing.

You can do this exercise at any point in time. Writing it out on paper gets you started, but this is a practice that you should implement whenever you hear negative talk coming through.

  1. The Law of Attraction

There is a reason why manifestation, meditation and all sorts of opening the mind to the universe is such a well known practice.

This is because the mind is so powerful that you can truthfully pull things into your life. The thoughts that you have create what you see, what you hear, and ultimately, how you live.

For example, let’s say you suddenly develop a craving for ice cream.

You think about it. Maybe you mention it out loud to your friend across the room and now all of a sudden every day for the next week - Ice cream is popping up everywhere. It’s in  media ads. Someone mentions it on the radio. Maybe, someone in your favourite show is eating that same flavour you were just thinking about.

I get it, it’s weird. It’s easy to toss it up to some coincidence or maybe you think the FBI is watching you.

The reality is, your subconscious mind awakened and is now pulling what you want towards you. Maybe these things were always around you, all the time. But now that you are aware of it, asked for it, and spoke it into existence - it becomes reality.

Law of Attraction is a marvelous thing that can ignite real ideas into existence.

There is in fact, one problem. The same way that the Law of Attraction and manifestation works for positivity - it can also work negativity. This is why it is so important to be aware of how you are speaking to yourself.

“Your inner conscious is always listening”

You want to be careful not to fill yourself up with negative talk because as a result, it pulls negativity into your life.

For example,

One day you wake up and you had such a horrible sleep. You then tell yourself you had horrible sleep, then you groan about it your partner and finish off with saying, “This is going to be a horrible day - I can just feel it”

99.9% of the time after that point, it turns out to be a horrible day. This is because, you asked, spoke and brought into existence.

“The mind does not know the difference between an internal thought and an external reality” - Hitomi Mochizuki

As you can see, these are three of many incredibly powerful reasons why how you talk to yourself is so important. Your inner talk is the captain of your ship. It’s essential that you work on your subconscious voice daily. Take breaks, meditate, journal. Do things that allow you to check in and make sure that the message you are telling yourself daily is a positive one.

Doing so, you can watch as you transform your life into one you’ve always wanted.
