Why You Aren't Where You Want To Be

Why You Aren't Where You Want To Be

6 Reasons why you aren’t where you want to be

While traveling along your journey to personal development, it can be easy to feel discouraged. You might feel as though you are nowhere near where you thought you’d be at this point and the road to success seems daunting and far away.

Does this sound like you?

Well, that’s okay because it sounds like most of us. Here are 6 reasons that explain what it is that’s holding you back.

  1. Comfortability

“If you are not moving forward, you are moving backwards”

It’s true that if comfortability is.. Well.. comfortable. Look at your life the way it is right now. Has it always been this way? For how long?

The fact of the matter is that taking risks is scary. It’s nerve-racking stepping outside of your comfort zone. It’s the unknown - a place you’ve never been before.

But, in that same regard, you could be (and most definitely are) holding yourself back from monumental change.

If you want to see positive change in your life, if you have to feel comfortable with being uncomfortable. Let the uncertainty of new beginnings excite you. Get inspired by new opportunities for growth and development. The world is too big to be stuck in the same place.

  1. No Purpose or End goal

One of the biggest problems of our generation is that we often have a vague premise of wanting happiness and fulfillment in life without a real goal in place.

If you have no end goal, you have no pathway which results in you following a pathway to nowhere.

One of the biggest favours you can do for yourself is to decide what success means to you. What accomplishments in your life would have to happen in order for you to be so happy with what you’ve done.

Really think about this. This is your purpose and you should recognize it and never forget it.

Make your choices in life based on this purpose of yours. Stick to the values that it gives you and the path that it guides you.

  1. You’re not on the right path

In contrast, there can be a very real explanation why you aren’t moving in the right direction.

The universe is a strong powerful source that sends you messages and signals in many different ways. One of the ways it could be trying to tell you that you’re not on the right path would be simply not allowing you to get there.

Sometimes, when you feel no traction or progression it could mean that the path just simply is not the right one for you. Maybe there’s another opportunity right around the corner or a missed opportunity that you could go back to.

As a result, it could be a great thing to go back to the drawing board and re-evaluate what your goals are and why. This could be eye-opening for you and could offer you a lot of clarity.

  1. You haven’t made a plan

In order to produce real change and growth in your journey, you have to create a plan. This means, draw out a daily routine. One that inspires you to get up in the morning and tackle those tasks that you’ve been afraid of. It means creating a month by month plan to hit your goals.

Trying to progress without a plan is like trying to learn how to swim without a life jacket. You can do it, but it’s a lot easier with some help.

  1. Listening to others opinions instead of your own

Too often we allow others to dictate where we should be and when. No one else knows what the best decision for you is.

There is one person that holds all the answers. It's your future you. There’s no way you or anyone knows what’s going to happen in the future.

As a result, only you can form what your pathway to what you want is. You’re the one that is going to have to live with whatever outcome your decisions will be.

Make sure that you are the one creating the plan and outline for yourself. Of course, help is fantastic. Advice is wonderful.

But, as long as the last person you are taking the final word from is yourself.

  1. Comparing yourself to anyone else

Finally, the one thing we all struggle the most with - Comparing your growth and where you are in life to someone else.

No one is living the exact same journey as you. Just like, you have no idea what someone has done to get to where they are right now.

You have to put on the blinders on either side and focus on your own lane. Judging your progression compared to someone else's will never work in your favour.

The moment you compare yourself to someone else - you’ve already lost.

You are your only competition. You’re the only one who you can be better than. Focus on being better than the person you were yesterday.

Lastly, take notice of the growth you’ve already done thus far. It’s important to revel in who you are right now alongside who you are becoming.

Final Note

The journey to personal development can be hard. It’s important to check in with yourself often and regain hold of your goals and where you are headed.

With a plan in place, and perseverance and patience, you will indeed get to where you were always meant to be.
